Shopping in Upper Silesia

The agglomeration of Silesia, composed of as many as 24 mid-size towns, is the largest urbanized area in the Central and Eastern Europe. Thanks to its high population density and well-developed transport network, Upper Silesia attracts more and more investors interested in modern shopping centres. So far they have been mainly situated along the major thoroughfares, connecting major cities in the region, to increase the amount of potential customers. Nowadays, there is a tendency to erect the shopping centres in particular towns of Silesia. Hence, more and more large commercial centres can be found in the centres of major towns of Upper Silesia.

As, according to a survey, visiting shopping centres, especially at weekends, is a favourite pastime of almost 70 % of the Silesians, there is a demand for such investments. Hence, newly built commercial centres are no longer only large shopping malls. They also play a significant entertainment function, thus, cinemas, fitness clubs, restaurants, music clubs are part of them.

The ''Silesia City Center'' is a modern multi-functional complex which is not only a retail centre, but also an attractive cultural and entertainment hub. The ''Silesia City Center'', situated at the site of a former coal mine, has been open since November 2005. It offers a lot of attractions to cater for all ages and tastes. The total size of the complex is 65,000 square meters, the commercial part of which consists of about 250 boutiques and shops. As the ''Silesia City Center'' is also an important cultural centre, there is the Cinema City for movie lovers and Fun City for disco and sports fans. There are also cafes and restaurants for those who have got hungry or thirsty having finished their shopping spree. Perfect for shopping and entertainment!

2. ''Trzy Stawy'' Commercial Centre

''Trzy Stawy'' (Three Ponds) Commercial Centre is situated only 3 kilometres away from the very centre of Katowice. It is a popular retail centre visited by around 6.5 million shoppers per year. Its total trade area is 39,000 square metres occupied by a Real hypermarket, over 50 boutiques and service outlets. There are also 8 inner mid-size shops specializing in shoes, leather accessories, lingerie, perfums, sports gear, kids' clothes and household appliances (Cubus, CCC, Smyk, EMPIK, TV EUR AGD, Promom, H&M, Reserved) and 6 outer mid-size shops (Feu Vert, Komfort, Go Sport, Gemo, MediaMarkt and Conforama). For hungry and thirsty shoppers there are a lot of eateries offering both traditional Polish dishes and oriental cuisine. All you need in one place!
3. ''Arena'' Commercial Centre

''Arena'', open in September 2006, is the first of the commercial centres built in Gliwice. It is situated along the former E-40 national road and connected with the city centre by means of a ring road. Thanks to its convenient location and a wide array of goods made by world-famous brands, the ''Arena'' attracts loads of people not only from Gliwice and its environs, but also from other towns of Silesia. The ''Arena'' is a modern retail centre with the total area of 42,000 square metres. The centre consists of a shopping gallery with 75 stores, 7 mid-size shops, a Carrefour hypermarket, Leroy Merlin store , several cafes, restaurants and service outlets. The shops specialize in shoes, lingerie, interior furnishing, clothes, household appliances, sports gear, jewellery, children's clothes and accesories, etc. A real feast for shoppers!
4. ''Forum'' Commercial Centre

The ''Forum'', contrary to other commercial centres in Gliwice, is not only a retail area but also a cultural hub. It is the first hyperspace commercial centre in Gliwice located in the city centre close to the railway and bus stations. On the total area of 43,000 square metres there are 130 shops and service outlets. The majority of shops offer shoes and clothes. Other goods like TV and household appliances, telephones and computers can also be purchased here. If feeling thirsty or hungry after a long shopping feast, one can enjoy a meal at one of the restaurants and cafes with a view of the city of Gliwice. The centre is a perfect venue for mums with kids and families as there are baby-care rooms and a 785-square-metre playground for kids. Another attraction is the Cinema City, the largest cinema complex in Gliwice consisting of 13 projection screens. Shopping and leisure are perfectly combined here!
5. ''City Point'' Commercial Centre

The ''City Point'' is a modern commercial centre situated in the centre of Tychy. However, it is not only a retail centre but also a popular cultural hub. The commercial part consists of a shopping gallery with world-brand stores and service outlets. A great advantage is the fact that one can have a good rest in the 5-room NoveKino Cinema which is part of the complex. The world premieres and the best Polish and foreign films are screened here, making it a real feast for movie lovers. Other crucial cultural events include concerts, photo exhibitions, painting exhibitions, dance shows, etc. The ''City Point'' is still in the process of construction. At the beginning of 2008 it is to be expanded by a fitness club, restaurants and cafes. You will love it here!
